Blog Post: Questions to ask yourself
posted Monday, August 18, 2008 10:12 PM
Before you even apply for a job or go to an interview, there are a few things to understand about yourself and the type of job that will be a good fit for you.
1. What am I good at? This is not a question of what tasks you have been able to master, but of your innate talents. What are you naturally good at? Do people tell you that you have a natural gift for leading a team? Do you get complimented on your customer service skills or on your ability to produce reports that are perfect in every detail? 2. What do I like to do? Think about what kind of activities make you feel productive and satisfied. In your previous jobs, what assignments have given you a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day. What type of work environment made you more comfortable and productive? 3. What does the market need? Check out jobing.com, visit your local Workforce Solutions Center and utilize a variety of on-line, paper and networking resources to find out what companies are hiring and what jobs are most in demand. It seems simple but having this information at the top of your mind could mean the difference between just accepting a job and selecting a career in which you can be challenged, grow and enjoy the learning experience each day brings.
