Blog Post: Next Step - Phone Tips

posted Sunday, September 28, 2008 4:19 PM

Good job! You followed my previous Five Quick Resume Tips and got a good look from the Recruiter/Hiring Manager. So good, in fact, you received a phone call. However, while music playing when your friends call is fun, you need to watch what song you have playing when you are job seeking. The music you choose can hurt you more than help you. Maybe its time to turn it off for a month.

Since you don't call yourself, unless of course you keep losing your phone, you also may not remember what your voicemail says. Again, be sure it is a professional sounding message. Generic messages such as: "This is Matt, sorry you missed me. Please leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can" work best.  That way the person calling knows they have called the right person. Just be sure you use your name above.
