Blog Post: Resume 101: Should I put an OBJECTIVE SECTION in my resume?
posted Thursday, March 22, 2007 4:12 PM
How many of us have written or read a resume that begin with an objective section that reads something like, "to secure a professional position at a high integrity organization where my talents and skills can be utilized to grow the bottom line". Huh? It is so vague that you could be in aerospace, healthcare or cosmetology. On the flip side there are some objectives that are so specific the job seeker has just managed to talk themselves out of most positions in North America. It is my opinion the do away with the objective section. It rarely works in the best interest of the applicant and too often works against them. Instead consider replacing it with a one of the following types of sections: Career Profile, Industry Experience, Awards and Honors, Certifications and Training, etc. For more information on resumes please visit http://www.hr.maslingroup.com/html/resume_home.html.
