NEW RULES AT TX DEPT OF PUB. SAFETY REGARDING TESTING AND FEES FOR CDL

posted Thursday, January 21, 2010 9:36 AM

NEW RULES FOR TESTING REGARDING FEE.  YOU MUST PAY $11.00 FOR THE PERMIT AND THE FEE FOR THE CDL LICENSE BEFORE COMPLETING THE WRITTEN TEST.

*Applying for a Texas CDL

A driver currently licensed in Texas will be required to present his/her driver’s license, proof of Social Security Number (example: original Social Security card, tax return), and proof of liability insurance if he/she owns any vehicles. Also he/she will be required to complete an application and a Qualification Certification form to certify that he/she meets or is exempt from certain physical qualifications, along with any other necessary certification forms.

A driver that is moving to Texas from another state must present Texas registration on any vehicles owned by them.  In addition he/she must surrender the valid out of state CDL in order to waive CDL testing.  In addition, to maintain a Hazmat endorsement, the Hazmat written test must be taken and passed, regardless of when the last Hazmat test was given.

All applicants for a CDL will have a National Driver Register and Commercial Driver License Information System check completed on them to verify a "clear" status before a CDL can be issued.

Fees for A Texas CDL

An Original CDL will require a fee of $60.00 for a validity period of six years.  If a driver already has a valid Texas driver’s license and converts to a CDL, he/she will be given a $4.00 credit for each full year remaining on his/her current license.  CDL renewals will be staggered between 4, 5, or 6 year expirations.  The cost for renewals will range from $40.00 to $60.00 respectively.

There will be an additional $8.00 fee required to renew your CDL with an existing Motorcycle class.  There will be an additional $15.00 fee to add the Motorcycle class.

A $10.00 fee is required from an applicant for each change in the class or type of license, endorsements, or restrictions, or one that upgrades the class of vehicle on a CDL.

The fee for a duplicate license is $10.00.

Required Testing

If a Texas driver is upgrading from a Class C license to a higher class license, he/she will be required to take the Texas Commercial Rules Test.

If a person is applying for a Texas driver’s license for the first time, he/she will have to fulfill requirements in addition to those for a Texas driver. He/She will be required to complete an original application for a Texas driver’s license and take any knowledge and/or skills test required.

A driver will be required to pass certain knowledge and skills tests depending on the type of CDL and/or endorsements he/she needs.

The knowledge tests are multiple choice-type tests.  A person must answer 80% of the questions correctly before he/she will be allowed to take the skills test.

A driver will be required to take and pass a vision test. If the vision exam is not passed the applicant may apply for a vision waiver.

What happens after you submit your application at The T

posted Wednesday, June 10, 2009 8:28 AM

Thank you for submitting your resume to Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The-t). We appreciate that you took the time to express interest in joining our team. After applying, the first question that most applicants have is "What happens next?" Below is an outline of our selection process to help set your expectations.
  • Your application will be reviewed by one or more of management team.
  • Please set aside one hour to self register and complete the online assessment at www.profilesontheweb.com.  Please do not retake the assessment as this will cause a delay in processing your application.  Send me an email if you have completed the online assessment foranother position.

The online assessment must be completed by all applicants in order to be considered for the position.
Enter the_T at the prompt for Authorizing ID (note: all codes are case sensitive)
Enter thet for the Authorization Code (note: all codes are case sensitive)
Enter the NAME OF THE POSITION YOU ARE APPLYING FOR next to position.

  • The hiring manager will review your application and online assessment.   Should it be determined that our interest and your interest warrant moving to the next step in the process, a Human Resource representative will arrange for a face-to-face interview.
  • Arrangements will either be made for you to complete another assessment, or the Hiring Coordinator will call back within a few days to coordinate a meeting.

We will typically interview multiple candidates for each position before making a final selection decision and the entire process may take anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks. We ask that, in order to help all parties involved make a timely decision, you return calls from Fort Worth Transportation Authority staff as promptly as possible. This will ensure that we know that you still have interest in joining our organization.

Because of the large number of individuals who apply to our organization, we unfortunately are not able to personally contact everyone. If you have not heard from Fort Worth Transportation Authority within 30 days of applying, you should assume that you are no longer in consideration for the position(s) to which you applied. Please feel free though to continue to apply to other positions within our company.
Thank you again and we wish you all the best in your career!
