Profile: Fort Worth Independent School District

The district has taken strong, positive steps toward achieving the goal of becoming the best urban school district in the nation. Superintendent Melody Johnson and the Board of Education instituted VISION 2010 - a series of initiatives that will redesign, transform and revitalize Fort Worth ISD schools.

Resources have been reallocated across the district for maximum impact in the classroom. Lead content teachers have been selected in every secondary school. Literacy coaches and lead teachers in math and science have also been designated in elementary schools.

Under the new strategic plan, the bar has been raised. The expectations is that all FWISD students will:

• be actively engaged as learners in a rigorous curriculum;
• attend schools that are caring and supportive learning communities;
• be known by teachers in a personalized environment that meets individual needs;
• benefit from highly competent teachers who are held accountable to rigorous standards; and
• graduate well prepared for post-secondary education and gainful employment and to be contributing citizens to Fort Worth and the nation.
